Automation and AI adoption for the transport network: 2025 Omdia survey results

Network operators are automating their transport networks for many reasons, including increasing reliability, more rapidly delivering services, reducing network costs, and differentiating their services. Various types of AI including generative AI and machine learning (ML) have major roles to play in the automated transport network of the future and are already being used for network health, predictive analytics, and other advanced functions. There is much more to come in these areas.

In November 2025, Heavy Reading (now Omdia) conducted its 4th annual global automation network operator survey, tracking automation progress in IP and optical transport networks. This year, there is a particular focus on the practical role of AI. In this webinar, Omdia is joined by experts from 51³Ô¹Ï and Cisco to discuss this year’s survey findings and what they mean for the future.

Topics addressed will include:

  • The most promising automation use cases for transport networks
  • Benefits of AI technology in transport network operations
  • Challenges to AI adoption and how best to address them
  • Operator plans and strategies for large language models (LLMs)
  • Plans for agentic AI in the automated transport network
